Why us

We take the moss off by hand — so the roof sheds rain the way it was built to

  • Based in Nanaimo

Our trucks start the day in Nanaimo. Ladysmith and Chemainus to the south and Qualicum Beach to the north are regular stops on the schedule, not long-distance favours.

  • Clearing moss since 2021

Enough wet winters on mid-Island roofs to know where moss starts first: the north-facing slope, the shaded valley, the strip of shingle under a big fir.

  • Low pressure by default

Asphalt and cedar get scrapers and brushes, and never high pressure. Our washing is a low-pressure soft wash as standard; higher pressure comes out only where a job needs it, like a concrete driveway.

  • Insured and WCB-registered

Locally owned, insured and WCB-registered. If a slope we cleared is not right, we come back and make it right.

More about us

How it works

Four steps, start to finish

1

Tell us about the roof

Phone (250) 555-0100, text the same number, or use the form. Asphalt, cedar shake, tile or metal, how many storeys, and which slopes are green.

2

A free quote first

We price it on pitch, height, roof material, how thick the moss sits and what trees shade it. You have the figure before anyone climbs up.

3

Moss off by hand

Beds covered with tarps, then the moss scraped and brushed off the courses and out of the valleys, bagged and driven away with us.

4

Treatment and a straight account

A treatment on the root traces left behind, then a word on what we saw up there: cracked shakes, lifted tabs, a soft patch. What happens next is your call.

Want the roof clear before the wet season?

Moss comes off best in a dry spell. Send the address and we will book you into the next one, with a free quote first.

Where we work

Nanaimo and the mid-Island coast

Nanaimo is where we start. South of the city that means Cedar, Ladysmith and Chemainus; north, it is Lantzville, Nanoose Bay, Parksville and Qualicum Beach along the Strait, plus the farms and acreages back from the water in Coombs and Errington.

The work

From our jobs

One shingle roof, two photos from a single vantage point: moss and needles packed into the valleys first, then the same courses after the crew had cleared them by hand.

Before: an asphalt shingle roof under scattered needle litter, thin lines of moss along the courses

Got questions?

Roof moss questions

Is moss actually bad for a roof, or just untidy?
It does real harm. A moss cushion holds water against the shingles long after the rain stops, and its roots work under the edges of the tabs and lift them. On asphalt it loosens the granules that protect the shingle from the sun. On cedar it keeps the shakes damp enough to rot. The longer it stays, the more of the roof it takes with it.
When is the best time of year to have it done?
Any dry spell. Moss is at its thickest after the wet months, so a lot of people book in spring, and early fall works well before the rain settles in. The roof has to be dry on the surface before we walk it, so if the forecast turns we call you and move the visit.
Will you pressure-wash my roof?
No. High pressure strips granules off asphalt shingles and tears the grain on cedar shakes, and the roof ages years in an afternoon. We take the moss off by hand with scrapers and brushes, and any washing we do is a low-pressure soft wash. Higher pressure is kept for the jobs that call for it, such as concrete driveways and walkways.
Will the moss come back?
In time, yes, and nobody honest will tell you otherwise. A shaded north slope under firs grows it back faster than an open south-facing one. A treatment after removal, zinc strips along the ridge and trimming back overhanging branches all slow the return. We can tell you which of those suits your roof.
Do I need to be home?
No. The work is all on the outside. Leave a side gate unlocked if the back yard is fenced, keep pets inside for the day, and we will send a message when the tarps are up and the moss is gone.
Which towns do you cover?
Nanaimo, Lantzville, Nanoose Bay, Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Cedar, Chemainus, Coombs, Errington, Ladysmith, and the roads in between. If you are just outside one of those towns, send the address and we will tell you straight away whether we can get to you.
